CHARLES OSAWA is a contemporary American sculptor focusing on the medium of recycled materials and resin, often reflecting the current state of society through figures and forms inspired by modern contemporary culture. His work usually encapsulates various torn and crushed found objects inside epoxy resin. Often described as abstract and architectural, OSAWA’s theme circulates around preserving broken reflections of humanity through adaptive use of industrial production procedures and technology. Working around various format, his jewelry design has appeared on New York Fashion Week during 2018 and 2019 for the fashion brand Tumbler and Tipsy, as well as light sculptures for NYCxDESIGN (formerly known as New York Design Week) during summer of 2021. Born in 1983 in Los Angeles, CA, the artist studied interior design and architecture at Parsons School of Design in New York. In 2008 he graduated with Departmental Honors from BFA Architectural Design Department. Since then he has worked on renown projects such as Andy Warhol retrospective Fifteen Minutes Eternal, a Charles and Ray Eames retrospective Essential Eames: A Herman Miller Exhibition, and the winning tender for the National Gallery of Singapore Interior Renovation, as exhibition design project manager. He is also one of the founder and contributor to Singapore’s underground art collective WeJungle. During Singapore’s 50th year anniversary in 2015, he orchestrated a three week-end long exhibition party festival Destruction and Rebirth which garnered media attentions and articles form Straits Times and Vice. The artist lives and works in New York.
